As an agnostic, I have some questions about Islam, but those of other faiths here are welcome to answer. I know I have a lot of questions, but you can answer as many or as few as you like, thank you. Don’t try to convert me, as I consider all religions epistemologically flawed.
1) Why is circumcision carried out when it is not mentioned in the Qur’an? The benefits are statistically negligible, which are outnumbered by the risks. Most importantly, this is a human rights issue as a baby cannot give consent. If he grows up and wants to cut it off later, then fine, but why proceed with an irreversible and unnecessary procedure?
2) If you believe that Islam is the one and true religion, what does that mean for people who believe in Christianity or Judaism or those who believe in a polytheistic religion or atheists? Are they all going to hell? Out of so many religions in the world, how would you reason and argue that your religion is the right one to an undecided person?
3) If there really is a God cares about humanity, why does he allow babies to suffer and die (who have not had the chance to redeem their sins) along with so much evil in the world? I read somewhere once that since we are all born sinners, it doesn’t matter when we die as we all will die sinners, and therefore suffering for the sins of other people is somehow magically part of “God’s plan”. This idea sounds particularly despicable to me.
4) Does a mentally retarded person or a person living in a very poor and remote area who has never heard of Islam automatically exempt him from going to hell?
5) Don’t you think the atheist who sacrifices his life for a good cause knowing there is no reward of an afterlife is MORE moral than the theist who thinks there is?
6) Why do so many Muslims try to dismiss religious terrorism by simply saying, “Ohh…terrorists aren’t REALLY Muslims.” So anyone who commits evil contrary to their religion suddenly absolves them of all responsibility? I guess Fred Phelps isn’t REALLY a Christian. I guess Ariel Sharon isn’t REALLY a Jew. Mohamed Atta definitely called himself a Muslim–he shouted “Allah Akbar” as he slammed the plane into the World Trade Center.
7) I know the Hadith is oral tradition passed down from generation to generation. But since it is subject to so many varying interpretations, why bother with it at all? Also, is the Hadith written down like the Qur’an? Can I buy a copy of the Hadith from a bookstore?
Why is there so much conflict today between Sunnis and Shias, especially in Iraq and the rift between the Arab League and Iran?
9) In Qur’an 5:38 it says that thieves must have their hands cut off as punishment. Do you really think this is compatible with any standard of modern day decency? If you ignore this passage, what gives you so much confidence in the truthfulness and validity of all the rest of the Qur’an?
10) How would you feel if one of your children marries a Jew? Would you love him or her less?

I’m a Lutheran. I’m circumcised. Arguing religion with people is useless since there is no reason religion should exist.
1. It is proven to protect against disease.
2.God has sent down Christinity and Judaism, therefore they are people of the book. They were once the true religons but over time people changed everything about it. Islam was the last religon revealed and therefore the right one.
3.We are in this world as a test, we are the ones to be sinners not God. If you want the mercy of God then don’t sin. As for babies who die, I consider them lucky for they go to Heaven right away.
4.Handicapped people go to heaven right away. As for the other part of the question, it is merely impossible that you haven’t heard about Islam. However if this is the case God is the most merciful….besides as long as the person is monotheistic.
5.Nope, a theist believes in God. Its as simple as that. Athiests don’t even believe in an afterlife so how should they expect a reward?
6.No one ever said they weren’t Muslims. These people are just what society calls them “extremists”
7. Hadith is things the prophet has said that we should follow because he is our best example. Thats why we should follow it all. Also, yes there are many books with hadiths.
8. Simple put, people are intolerant of other beliefs.
9. This is also in the bible and in the torah. Even the Romans and the Greeks went with this law. This is what is written in the bible (it basically applies) 19:21 “And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.”
10. I would respect his decision, but be GREATLY dissapointed. These people are greatly misguided, and i’d BY FAR prefer a Muslim and not allow anything but that.

What is mentioned in Judaism is automatically an obligation in Islam (UNLESS) was mentioned again in Islam , Islam is not a new religion, the three Abramic religions are the same,,, Islam came to remind , and correct what PEOPLE did to the previous ones,,
The human rights issue: Male circumcision is actually enhances the sexual sensitivity of male,, and also enhances lots of health issues (will be very long answer if i reply in detail) you can just wiki that subject and google it and you will see yourself,,

- who passed and approved the Hadith (who referred it ),,, there are some who are eligible,,,and some not
-if it does not contradict with Quraan
- it matches with the correct sanity
and yes you can buy books with approved and agreed by lots of ( eligible scholars)
9) the punishment of theft in Islam,carries lots of conditions (private money,person to a person – no need for the theft unless greed, stable time and fair social life..etc) if those conditions are not fulfilled ,, it is up to the ruler to decide a different punishment ( I think we are not fulfilling those conditions nowadays)

Hadith is not an “oral tradition” it’s Prophet’s Mohammad (pbuh) words which was memorized by people like Bukhari and Muslim and those that are very correct in context have the word (saheeh-right) by the side of the Imams who memorized them. And you can buy Hadith book from an Islam bookstore or read them online on an Islamic website.

I’m only going to answer your third question since others gave good answers to you. Why do babies suffer and die? That’s the law of the nature (the law of the nature is made by God don’t take wrong ideas please). Believe it or not, we’re not so different from other creatures living on this planet. The only difference we have is the complexity of our brain which has made us the most intelligent BUT as long as we’re living on this planet, we have to obey the rules. The nature isn’t kind to any creature or living thing which doesn’t have the ability to live. Of course by man’s science so far we have been able to fight this back and that’s why our population is growing. But you may ask well why God has put such rules to destroy part of the population, well the answer is it is needed since we all need to live and if the nature does not do that, we will do it ourselves (don’t say no just go and take a look at places where people are dying cause of hunger and see what they do to each other sometimes). This planet needs a balance, and those who can’t live on it should leave. It’s even better for them too since if they don’t they’ll just suffer you can see that in children who have serious disorders and are saved cause of our science but are they really living? Are they enjoying their life? I don’t think so myself. So I think death is needed and it IS a justice. We all have the right to be HAPPY and YOU can’t tell people how they should be happy. You might ask why God creates babies who can’t live on this planet? The answer is in this world nothing works exactly right always. Mistake is the part of this world and why? God knows that better and if God is willing we may find out soon. I don’t see why you don’t believe in after life since it’s so obvious. There is some sort of energy (we haven’t found out exactly what it is yet) inside our body which when it leaves, body dies (you can say the ghost). But as we know nothing gets destroyed, specially if it’s energy or anything like it we just know it leaves this world but it’s still there somewhere and how do I know this? Quantum physics has explained this therefore there SHOULD be an after life and even if quantum physics couldn’t explain this, don’t you think our life would be so meaningless? Don’t you think it would be so ridiculous? I’ll leave that for you to decide. AND one more thing: Islam doesn’t order anything without a reason. There is always a good reason behind it and that reason is mostly based on science which we have started to find out and understand recently. So I just suggest you that you go and do a lot of research on Quran and also things that scientists have found out and then maybe you’ll see this world and ALL the heavenly religions in another way.

1. circumcision started when God told Abraham to do it to himself and all the males that follow God. its a covenant with God and his people.

2.Jewish people believe that every other person will go to hell unless they do the ten commandments and their rituals
Christians believe that every other person will go to hell unless they believe in Jesus as God and in his blood
(all the difference between Judaism and Christianity is that Jews are still waiting for Messiah or Jesus and waiting for all the prophecies in the old testament to get fulfilled .. all that actually happened but they are still waiting for it)
Muslims believe that every other person will go to hell unless they believe in Muhammed as a prophet and God and do whats written in Quran and Sunna.

3) In Christianity, we are all born sinners .. there is a verse that says so i can put it up if you want (thats why we know whats right and whats wrong, thats why we cannot go around naked, thats why we are not in paradise anymore) however if a kid dies, he will go to heaven for sure because his eyes are not “open” yet! if you are eyes are open (you can differentiate between whats right and whats wrong) and you die and you are not covered under the blood of Jesus Christ, there is no way you can make it to heaven! its not that we are suffering for the sins of other people.. its like if there was no sin, if Adam and Eve didn’t sin and disobey God, we wouldn’t have been living right now (because he told Eve that she had to give birth as a punishment) so God’s plan to come in flesh and die was to fix what Adam and Eve (disobedience and separation from God) did and wash our sins! he actually made is easier for us to go to heaven even after we disobeyed God .. i think it would have been easier for him not to do all that and leave us go to hell as he told Adam and Eve that once they ate from the tree, they would die (thats a law he cannot break it, take it back, or contradict himself) he does not want his people to be destroyed because he loves us
4) i would consider you are asking about Christianity.. actually its God responsibility so that everybody hears about his message one way or another, so i can guarantee that everybody does hear about the message of God before their death and its their choice whether they accept it or not!
5)heaven is not about deeds, its about accepting the blood of Jesus..we are human beings and nobody can die PERFECT or with no sins so God fixed that by giving us a free ticket to heaven through his blood! deeds come from inside of us because we love God and we appreciate what he did to us .. but you can never “buy” heaven through deeds ..only and only the blood of Christ that guarantees you heaven and washes or forgives all your sins..
10) it says in the Bible not to marry foreigners (or people that are not Christians) .. i would try to raise my children in Christ and if they are true Christians they wouldn’t want to do something against what God said but its ultimately their choice .. i wouldn’t love them less or more its their life and its their soul as long as i teach them whats written in the book, its up to them to go by it or not

I don’t see how your initial question about circumcision relates to the rest of your questions. Anyway,s I’m a Christian, and I agree with you that male circumcision is mutilation (on par with female circumcision), however you should reconsider “all religions epistemologically flawed.” You need to be humble and acknowledge you’re not the bearer of ‘the truth’.
Btw, male circumcision is also customary in the Coptic church (Christianity in Egypt), even though it clearly states in the Bible that it is unnecessary.
The only thing I can see that justifies circumcision if it is commanded by God. But that is not the case anymore. Then there are health reasons. The female vagina is dirtier, produces more smegma, and harbors more bacteria than the intact penis. If health’s a reason to cut boys, then it’s a much better reason to cut girls. The ignorance on here saddens me:
